Jaguar Developing An All-Electric Car for 2018

An all-electric Jaguar is reportedly in the works, with an estimated target date of 2018.

Analysts project, however, that Jaguar’s newest electrified car most likely won’t resemble the $1.5 million plug-in hybrid C-X75.

➥ If Jaguar is indeed working on a new BEV, it will undoubtedly bring to the design table knowledge gleaned from the now-shelved C-X75 project. This supercar was built in 2013 to take on the LaFerrari and McLaren P1.

➥ The vehicle will probably be based off the platform of Jaguar’s upcoming SUV, though this hasn’t been confirmed by the British carmaker. The news comes from several unnamed sources and was reported by U.K.-based Autocar.

➥ The plug-in hybrid had both a turbocharger and a supercharger mounted to its 4-cylinder, 502-horsepower engine. The top speed rating of 220 mph beat the hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder by 6 mph.

➥ Jaguar’s electric portion of the supercar’s drivetrain included two 194-horsepower motors and a 19-kilowatt hours lithium ion battery. By tapping into the battery pack, the C-X75 could drive 40 emission-free miles before the gasoline engine kicked in.

➥ Jaguar Land Rover is in talks with Ford and BMW about building a battery plant for future electric vehicles, according to British newspaper The Times.
